Our range of battery powered devices differ in size, performance and functionality to suit most applications.   The advanced configuration options managed out of our cloud management device platform, software application, allows the user to train the device to report at intervals that suit the application need and power usage constraints.

Whether you are using our in-house Vuga Telematics software  platform or a 3rd party platform, you should be able to maximise reporting data, optimise battery life, and handle the tough conditions with our custom designed IP67 rated enclosures.

Our unique and highly effective tamper detect on the Remora range enables the client to have early warning if a device is tampered with, removed or destroyed.

We also have LTC (Lithium Thionyl Chloride) battery capability in the Remora range, allowing 100-200% more battery life over Alkalines, and excellent extreme temperature tolerance.  The ability for the device to have industrial grade batteries which are field-replaceable is unique in this space.

Being able to increase battery life means that a device can be fitted in an obscure spot where signal is limited with aggressive tracking intervals, and still out-perform its nearest competitor.

CONTAINER TRACKING

THE NIRVANA OF UNPOWERED TRACKING:  SUPER LONG LIFE AND GRANULAR REPORTING

Most clients merely want 1 or 2 position updates per day and substantial battery life of 1-3 years when it comes to track and trace a container.

But we all know the more a device moves, and the more it reports the lower the battery life.  This impacts the support cost of pulling assets off the road and replacing batteries, or even worse de-engineering the secure housing and then having to re-engineer it back into place.

Key features of our container tracking solutions are super long battery life up to 5 years or more, flexibility to choose adaptive tracking over periodic tracking (tracking by accelerometer movement as opposed to preset position update intervals regardless of movement).

With the improvements in tracking technology coupled with falling prices for hardware and platforms, unpowered equipment Location and Tracking is back on the menu for many operators.  Often this is just a deterrent for high rates of theft.

Some applications have power, but wiring in a device can often be impractical, costly, support intensive or just not convenient if the tracker is being moved between multipe pieces of equipment.

Location and theft recovery are just 2 traditional requirements around tracking unpowered / powered assets.  However, Vuga has mastered the art of Movement Based Tracking to provide the user a 3rd very useful fleet management / optimisation feature.

Capturing hours of use or distance travelled is essential for fleet maintenance.  By using the accelerometer to detect movement, and then smart algorithms to ascertain the asset is on a trip and not just being moved around a yard, we can confidently record distance / duration often to within 99.5% accuracy.

Movement Based Tracking is an ideal tool for our Scheduled Maintenance module our software application, allowing operators to accurately manage their service and inspection intervals on actual data rather than estimates which can adversely affect equipment warranties and business workflow.

TRAILER TRACKING

TRAILER TRACKING: THE HOLY GRAIL OF BATTERY POWERED TRACKING

Everyone in the Transport Industry will tell you how they wish they could have a “plug and play” tracker for trailers, rather than having to pull them off the road, hardwire a device to the tail-lights and know deep down it is only a matter of time before it is damaged, stolen, water-logged, etc…and back in the workshop again.

The other side of the fence-sitters will swear blindly that a solar powered unit is the way to go, perpetual energy, out-of-site (on top of the trailer) out-of-mind.

Well, we have solar powered units, the G52, an award winning product for its innovation and rugged design all-in-one.   It has been used on trailers, and was designed with trailers and containers in mind.

However, seasoned operators will tell you that they get knocked off trailers (by branches for example), they get stolen out of curiosity, they are easy to locate for those criminals looking to compromise / destroy them, and they easily get dirty thus rendering the solar panel less and less effective.  If that was not enough, the devices often need battery replacements as they can only be charged and recharged so many times, normally up to 2 or 3 years at best.  And then finding a suitable mounting place on a flatbed is almost impossible as they need to have line of sight of the sky.

So, long life battery powered trackers are the Holy Grail of trailer tracking, but why?

Jostle Mode is an exceptionally smart tool to detect where a trailer ends up in a large yard without it going into trip status every time it is moved or jostled.   This has the dual benefit of accurate location in a yard, as well as power saving due to not trying to report every 2 minutes (by default) its location thinking it is in a trip.

RAIL WAGONS

RAIL WAGON TRACKING: THE ULTIMATE IN “TOUGH TRACKING”

Perhaps one of the last truly difficult tracking applications.  Very challenging given the environmental conditions, temperatures, and constant excessive jolts.  An industry with highly regulated certifications, and infamously difficult to identify a good location on the wagon for a tracker.

Enter the Remora series of trackers, durable, known as the world leading long battery life GPS tracker, and ideally suited to tracking trailers and wagons.

THE REMORA AS A BLUETOOTH GATEWAY

The Remora 2D is not only a wagon tracker, but it can be a gateway too for Bluetooth tags.  Our Guppy Bluetooth will be ideal for this application, IP67 rated, 3-5 year battery life transmitting at 1-2 sec intervals.   Imagine the Guppy Bluetooth tag on a pallet or item of freight.  The client / transporter will know the latest position of the pallet as it will be talking to any of the Bluetooth-enabled Remora 2Ds on the rail wagons within range.
